The studio display is familiar, but improved over the iMac. Like you, I work several hours every day on this screen and it needs to look good. Coming from a 5K iMac, I did not want to have an inferior screen to what I have been using. I went with the studio display after researching every alternative I could find in 27" and 32". Is it really better alternative then?!ītw please don't start with the "unremovable" cable again, non of you would have even be bothered if bunch of popular youtubers wouldn't be screaming about this like it is the end of the world. So theoretically I would be saving 20% on the monitor itself, but I would need to buy decent webcam, external mic and speakers, that can easily cost more that what I would save. I would be probably willing to overlook this fact, buts lets face it - it is one of the ugliest plastic products on the market looking like straight from the early 2000s.speakers are the same awful garbage that is being included (for some reason) in most of monitors today, so again, not usable.not sure if it has mic, but if so I dont have much hope for it either.even though it has webcam, it is practically not usable (I have seen some tests, it just looks awful). In my country this is about 20% cheaper alternative with almost the same screen quality, BUT: So what are my real options? I guess it depends on the country you live in, but in my case (Czech republic) there are like eight (!!) 5k monitors on the market, some of them are totally out of the price range (much more expensive than the Apple Studio Display) and none of those has usable webcam, mic or speakers. There is one alternative being mentioned A LOT, that is 27" LG UltraFine 27MD5KL. I prefer the 27" since everything else just seems too big for me, but can do with 32" max (definitely no more). Let's say I am looking for 5k monitor then. Compared to macbooks built-in mic it is a day and night difference.

Tried also the built-in mic but the instant awful echo made me never want to hear that again. I tried external webcam recently (Logitech C930e) and I was honestly shocked how bad the image is compared to any macbook built-in cam, even after downloading the official SW and playing with the colors + white balance + brightness for few hours, I still look either like I just got out of steam bath or at my own funeral. Even in case of the good ones I always tend to look more on the opened macbook next to me since the PPI is so much better and everything just looks clearer.I also have Zoom calls few times per day so I require good webcam, mic and speakers. I had some better ones (LG UHD 27UL850 for example) and some really s*itty ones (currently I have DELL P2721Q and it is REALLY bad, not just brightness wise but the panel quality is somehow worse than anything 4K I have seen before).

After trying my fair share of 4k monitors non of them really did it for me. I am someone who is looking at the monitor screen about 10 hours a day, so I require a good quality screen (at least for my own comfort).

So after watching hours of YT videos explaining how Apple Studio Display is really a bad product for the money in every way, I still couldn't find the answer to the basic question - is there really better alternative for me?
